The Angry Amen
You know those moments where you really wish you had your phone out because trying to tell someone about it later just doesn’t do it justice? That was us last night, a true parenting moment for the books and honestly maybe for AFV too.
As we were getting our 4 year old ready for bed, she got upset over something I can’t even remember now. Every night we read her kids Bible and then pray together. But since she was mad, she didn’t want to pray. I gently told her, “Even if you’re upset, you should still talk to Jesus.”
So she did.
But she prayed for every single person in the most comically angry voice.
My husband and I tried so hard not to burst out laughing so she wouldn’t stop, but the second we left the room, we lost it.
And honestly, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Because maybe this is you too. When you’re upset or sad, talking to your Heavenly Father is the last thing you feel like doing. I get it, same here. But the beautiful thing is that Jesus still wants to hear from us, no matter what emotion we’re feeling.
You can tell Him you’re mad. You can even tell Him you’re mad at Him. He can handle it. He wants your heart exactly as it is, unfiltered, vulnerable, and real.
As a mom, I can’t imagine how it would feel if my daughter didn’t come to me when she was sad or upset. That would break my heart because I want to be her safe place. And that’s exactly how God feels about you.
So the next time you’re upset, sad, or just in your feelings, run to His arms. He is a safe place to land.
