Schooled by a 4-Year-Old
Ever had your child school you? The very thing you told them not to do, they throw right back at you in the most perfect moment. Like when they catch you saying a word you told them not to say, or sneaking the candy you told them not to eat. Well, that happened to me the other day with my 4-year-old, and I’ve been laughing (and thinking about it) ever since.
A couple of weeks ago, I was running late to drop my daughter off at school. I couldn’t find my phone anywhere, and I needed it to clock into work. In desperation I blurted out, “Jesus, please help me find my phone.” Not even a minute later, there it was, sitting right on the couch. I grabbed my bag and headed for the door with my little girl when she stopped me in my tracks.
“Mommy, did you say thank you to Jesus?”
I laughed out loud, but her words sank in. Right there, I said, “Thank you, Jesus!”
Have you been guilty of this too? Asking Jesus for something, receiving it, and then forgetting to thank Him? It might seem like a small thing, but even my toddler noticed because we’ve tried to instill the habit in her of always giving thanks for what we’re given.
I hope this story made you laugh, but also reminded you, like it reminded me, to slow down and thank God for everything. The big, the little, and all the moments in between.
